CD review: ½ SOUTHERN NORTH Lothron (Independent) by Frank Garcia

Lothron
Independent
½ Southern North is a one man project by IDVex. The project is based out of Kalamata Messinia Greece. Genre is described as Black Noise of Doom and Experimental Sound fields. According to the Bandcamp page these two tracks were previously unreleased and were recorded using collaborating musicians. The Whisper of The Sea, a very melodic clean guitar introduces my ears quite pleasantly. It reminds me of WASP, the song Wild Child comes into my head. Comparisons aside. This song is simple and effective in its delivery. I really like the solos that are spread about. It has the early 80's metal vibes that completely remind me of my younger years. A pleasant surprise and found myself listening to it several times. The Resemblance of Inexistence, a much faster track. I can hear the black metal influence in the opening riff. Another catchy solo grabs my attention. The chorus is memorable and the ending stays in your mind long after the song is over. For being described as experimental, the songs sound very well composed and executed. In conclusion, the essence of the early metal days lives strong in these compositions. From clean strumming guitars to fast double kick footwork and melodic solos there is something to enjoy in each passage. My only complaint is that there are only two tracks. -Frank Garcia
