Film Review: Raze by Roberta J. Downing

Horror, Action, Drama
Release date: January 2014
Directed by: Josh C. Waller
Written by: Robert Beaucage and Kenny Gage (Producer)
Starring: Zoe Bell, Rachel Nichols, Tracie Thorns
Plot: Women are abducted and taken to an underground jail of sorts where they are pitted against each other to fight for televised sport. The goal, kill as many contenders as you can to keep a loved one on the outside alive.
This is by far the worst movie I’ve ever seen. The women are treated as prisoners by the armed guards and called by twos to fight each other to the death. The creepy man and woman that are the head of some Dionysus or Baucus cult believe the women to be maenads who are supposed to be the greatest fighters in the world. According to the creepy man, this organization has been in his family for generations.
This movie was so terrible that I could not watch more than twenty-five minutes of it before I said enough. In a world where especially the United States, women have fought for their rights and gained laws against domestic violence and other forms of abuse, this film degrades women through psychological, emotional, and physical abuse on a daily basis. This film does nothing more than men showing others how it is ok to treat a woman any way they like- that it is ok to abuse, mistreat and force women to do things against their will.
Now to be fair, I don’t care for movies where men would be in the same abusive situation.
I would not recommend this movie. Ever. -Roberta J. Downing
