Ode To You

By my side when she died, she took my heart. Too much pride, laid beside, broken down fell apart. I promised that I’d go with you, we’d sleep and melt away, you knew I loved to live this life, I knew you couldn’t stay. When I woke and found you cold I wailed until the dawn, I held you close to keep you warm the moment lingered on. It’s been a year or maybe more since you left my side, I hold your ashes close at night now waiting for my time. I struggle with this life you left, the pain’s too much some days, just one more kiss and one more laugh and I’ll be on my way.
