Alright, hear me out. I’d love to hear from all of you on what would come to your mind when you hear a band called Beastial Piglord; if you had any shred of an idea what to expect then you’re a better man than I.
-Vaginosis
So this is the Halloween release by the band, featuring a total of 8 tracks. If the intro to my review didn’t already clarify this fact, this is my first time listening to this band and well, what I heard out of this album I definitely wasn’t expecting at all.
I have to admit, I was a little thrown off as the Bandcamp description listed genres such as
-Metal
-Doom Metal
-Sludge Metal
-Stoner Rock
-Ambient
And while I do understand and hear those influences within the album, the main aspect to me that wasn’t even mentioned was just how ’EXPERIMENTAL’ this record ended up being.
This album is one twisted, insane roller coaster with no rhyme or reason for its own existence let alone narrative! It’s as if the band just got baked beyond belief and just said
‘Let’s make the sonic equivalent of a clusterfuck’ and then we have this, and let me make it perfectly clear, I love this album.
I love how it makes no sense at all, yet at the same can engage and relate to the darkest parts of your mind and soul, it’s as if it’s somehow speaking to the deviant in all of us and the chaos is the key to unlocking one’s own violent nature as a person with no consciousness or will power, that’s quite a scary image when you think about it and that’s what this album is here to reveal.
I feel like the ‘ambient’ mention in the description must have been their way of describing the experimental elements placed when I would personally chalk it up to more ‘electronic’ influences.
There’s also hints of Jazz in here, the various metal elements I spoke of above, lots of looped vocal snippets and samples as well as some heavy dark techno feels to the majority of the songs to make it that little bit extra daunting.
I can tell you this much, you won’t find another set of 8 tracks as crazy as these ones, I haven’t heard their back discography so I can’t tell you if this is their normal style or if this is just a psychedelic ‘one off’ but regardless it’s a memorable album for all the weirdest of reasons.
It’s brash, heavy, disturbing and innovative all in the same breath and I’m lucky to have been a part of the lunacy! –Corban Skipwith
