CD Review: CUT THE NAVEL STRING Takis

CUT THE NAVEL STRING
Takis
Roadrunner Records/Atypeek Music
Drawing a huge influence from Rollins Band, France’s Cut the Navel String are described as Industrial metal, though this seems a misnomer. The reason for this is minimal sampling is used during the eight track release. From the opening track ‘Dream Life,” the listener is confronted with dissonant chords and off-beat percussion establishing a jarring tempo. Subsequent songs take the listener on a journey best described as experimental and progressive in nature. The album is well produced with all instruments and vocals clearly defined. Where this album falls short is the songs sound all too similar in nature. There is little differentiation in structure between tracks however this is compensated by an angry and passionate delivery from all musicians. Other highlights from the album are ‘Connected’ and ‘Bloody Stains’ (which shows a true divergence into Industrial). -Simon Brown

  1. I heard this album in a bar in Besançon, France, in 1994. I managed to find a CD copy in 2015... was worth the wait,
