As an author, I often use music to set a mood or give inspiration to my work. I’m always searching for new sound to replace the old. It was serendipitous when I found this band. I happened upon its existence through a video by Mark Persner concerning his part in another band. (I will not divulge the name of the band and let you make this discovery for yourselves).
The author of the blog explaining the meaning behind this song did a wonderful job at humanizing several emotions. The personification of emotions such as anxiety and OCD, among so many others that haunt many of us, allows us to have that dialogue with our demons (hence the title - The Demon King).
The entire ensemble plays to perfection behind a whispered, emotionally charged vocal. This band knows how to hold back, when to come forward with their amazing sound, and when to allow the vocalist, with his story, to become our center of attention.
As a writer, I am always appreciative of lyrics being posted and they do provide a video with lyrics on their Facebook page linked below.
They refer to their music as magical rock, however, I would go as far as to say it is ethereal by nature and balances upon the apex of mystical with hints of the alchemical ghosts that haunt each of us, always just out of reach. We know them personally and the pull of their invocations keep the deepest, darkest realms of our consciousness in a constant state of desire – a desire to understand it all despite the trepidations.
Bravo to MCC for giving our personal demons personification. It is difficult at best, to try to explain what emotion feels like, much less how perfectly real they are in the time continuum of our daily lives.
Give them a listen. There are several links on their Facebook page.
