Demo Review: LIFELESS DARK Who Will Be The Victims? (Independent) by Devin Joseph Meaney

Who Will Be The Victims?
Independent
Place of origin: Boston, Massachusetts, USA
Genre: Punk, thrash metal
Release date: March 19, 2018
It is now nearing midnight. Before bed, I decided that I would check out some tunes. I can honestly say that I am glad I made this decision. I logged into Youtube and searched for newly released punk and metal demos and ep's. In this search, I happened to come upon ''Who Will Be The Victims?'' by Lifeless Dark, a punk/metal hybrid band hailing from Boston, Massachusetts. The punk influence can easily be heard, but I am sensing a very strong leaning of old-school thrash metal. The guitar work is very heavy, reminding me of a plethora of bands that released music in the late eighties and early nineties. Crunchy rhythms and wailing solos can be heard within the confines of this demo. The bass is somewhat hard to hear in the mix, so I cannot really make a comment on it. I'm sure that it absolutely rips, though! The drums are played well, on par with the rest of the demo. I can imagine that this band would put on an epic live show. Another thing I like about this demo is the production quality. Although they were released in 2018, the recordings sound like they were produced thirty years ago in a dank, musty basement. Personally, I see this as a good thing. I was always a fan of older music and it warms me to see that bands are still creating this kind of sound. Clocking in at about twelve and a half minutes, this release really destroys your eardrums... I mean this in a good way, of course. Fans of old-school tunes are sure to dig these tracks. I highly suggest checking this band out. You will not regret it! -Devin Joseph Meaney
