Poem: 'Butterfly' by Sarah McKellar

Butterfly
by Sarah McKellar

Your butterfly sits on my shoulder,
It departs and I tell it off,
I whisper secretly to you of my dreams,
and then your butterfly scoffs,

Do not ever give up on your dreams,
my love, now and not ever,
For if I could have my lifetimes over,
We would still be together,

I learnt when the butterfly comes near,
flying high on unconditional wings,
remember never to forget your heart,
and remember to let your heart sing.

I moved from a beautiful sunburnt town,
in the hope that we could be together,
The dust on the sunburnt plains will be not the same,
not ever.
