Compilation Review: Various Artists "Go Ahead Punk... Make My Day" (Nitro Records) by Devin J. Meaney

Band: Various Artists
Format: CD, vinyl
Label: Nitro Records
Release date: 1996
When I was a kid I owned a punk rock comp. The comp in question is “Go Ahead Punk... Make My Day”—a short release by Nitro Records from back in the day. I recently found a few copies of it on Amazon for under four dollars plus shipping each (one for me and one for my daughter’s boyfriend) and after re-listening after all these years I can say it still stands firm as one of my all time favorite punk comps—even if mostly due to the nostalgia.
Featuring bands like The Offspring, AFI, Guttermouth, Jughead’s Revenge and The Vandals it is a solid testament to what punk rock should be. I don’t quite vibe with the last song on the album anymore (The Offspring’s “Beheaded”) but the rest of the comp still has things I can get in sync with.
As it is hard to write a review about individual tracks (or at the very least I don’t have the ambition) I will just leave my word vomit short and say that this is something fans of punk rock should be able to dig. If not—at the very least I do. -Devin J. Meaney
