The best way to describe the moment you hit the play button is like a punch to the face. Raw brutal guitar tones, crushing drums, destructive bass tones and sick twisted guttural vocals. A holds no barred style of aggression. It’s reminiscent of old Morbid Angel or Grave in terms of the production quality. No fancy editing or polishing make the instruments that much more intense and in your face.
All the tracks are crushing. My favorite will have to be Book of Blood, it has all those elements that made death metal in the nineties catchy and memorable and that is how I felt while listening to it. Dead Alive conjures thoughts of early Cannibal Corpse albums. Simple yet effective riffing and vocals with both high and low range make this one very memorable. Flesh Collector is the opening track and it waste no time dragging you into the pit from the very beginning. Beneath Haunting Skies, surely to get a mosh pit swirling and stomping. I enjoy the double kick work in this song, it stands out and the catchy guitar verses are easy to follow and will have you chanting along after a few minutes. The cover art is intense with a sultry naked girl with blood pouring down her head to her chest and a razor sharp logo fits the contents perfectly. In conclusion, a great debut ep with compositions rooted in the early days of the death metal genre. Fans of Cannibal Corpse, Gorguts, Gorefest, Entombed, Grave, Sinister, Hypocrisy and Death should add this to their collection. -Frank Garcia
