Film Review: IT by Gene Olivarri

Directed by Andy Muschietti
Written by Chase Palmer, Cary Fukunaga and Gary Dauberman
Based on the novel by Stephen King
Starring Bill SkarsgÄrd, Jaeden Lieberher and Finn Wolfhard
Stephen King lied to all of us. I just couldn't understand why he would let Hollywood mess up his novel like this. The way actor Bill Skarsgard potrayed "IT" sounded like Michael Jackson talking with a soft voice trying to get Georgie in his bedroom at Neverland Ranch… horrible!
What made it worse was they called "IT" Pennywise The Dancing Clown, which dulled the character even more. "IT" tried scaring the loser club by illusions and shaking his head back and forth very quickly and screaming like a kid trying to scare another kid screaming. Very silly, nothing scary about that.
Tim Curry's "IT" was way better; he brought out the character more with his theatre acting abilities and sinister voice that he used. Let’s be honest he wanted to kill the loser club, even though the way he looked in the clown costume was silly as well.
The Loser Club seemed to lacking very much at times but the director covered it up by using illusions that "IT" would give them. There were parts that were funny at times that gave the storyline a bit of comedy. The kid that really made and carried the movie was Finn Wolfhard as Richie Tozier. He did such a sensational job in this movie and he was completely hilarious!
I did like Henry and his gang. Very well played parts. They were meaner and tougher than the group in the original made for TV two part series. I wish they would've gotten more into how Henry's father was mean to him, the abuse, and for "IT" to feed off of it in a better detailed storyline and a sinister character than what were we shown.
This time Pennywise actually allowed us to see the kids float in this movie. I thought it was so amazing how they looked in a trance floating in the sewer in the sky. Pennywise had a stage in the sewer, he was completely CGI made and he moved like the crooked man on The Conjuring. It made me laugh when he started dancing. It was nothing terrifying and you could tell the same CGI idea was used for his mouth and teeth movements, and in other illusions. CGI hurts these types of horror characters. Pennywise was inconsistent with the Loser Club at times as well.
All in all this movie for me was not a horror or a thriller movie. In my opinion it felt like a coming of age movie. The soundtrack was awesome in this film; it took me back to my childhood in the 80's I rate this movie 2 tacos out of 10. -Gene Olivarri
