The last review I wrote was for Cystic Embalment. I sent the review off to the band, and they quickly notified me that they recently put out a split with another outfit called ''Acid Shower''. I have been on a goregrind kick, so the first thing I did this morning was throw on this split release! Just the same as with the last release I checked out, Cystic Embalment is a splattery cornucopia of deranged awesomeness! Pitched gurgles and violent vocals run amok amid down tuned guitar, excellent bass, and drumming that can only be labled as ferocious. I can go out on a limb and say that Cystic Embalment is one of the best goregrind bands I have heard of recently, along with another band, Uremic Fetor. Hailing from Montreal, Quebec, these guys in my opinion should become a staple within the canadian goregrind scene. As for Acid Shower, their production is much rougher, and they cross the line from goregrind to gorenoise. On this release, the gore is easily defined, but it is also easy to hear a strong noisecore influence. With a vicious snare as the backdrop for wild and untamed vocals, it is clear to me that these guys like their tunes heavy and vulgar. The guitar work is hard to make out, but this is common with gorenoise, and it manages to fit nicely with the rest of the music overall. The coolest part of the Acid Shower portion of this release in my opinion is the intermissions. The band uses rap/trap samples, and it really adds to the overall feel of this banger. Hailing from Toronto, Canada, Acid Shower has chucked up a nice little piece of gorenoise mastery, and just like Cystic Embalment, they should make the underground scene of Canada proud! I love goregrind and gorenoise, but I am always even more content to find bands from my home country, Canada. Where I come from, grind and gore bands are very sparse, so it is always nice to hear bands from my own side of the globe. In closing, this release is a nice little splash of underground splatter, and I am glad Cystic Embalment has sent me in the direction of Acid Shower. Great tunes, everyone! -Devin Joseph Meaney
