Beyond Helvete is a German black metal solo project based in Stuttgart, Germany. After an EP, a compilation, two prior full length releases and an eight year wait- Beyond Helvete is back with their third full length release in “MMXX” through Immortal Frost Productions.
The aural assault commences instantly on the listener with the intro- an aggressive and menacing take on black metal .The vocals within this release are kept firmly in the background in some tracks, allowing a chaotic feel to take over the music and a slightly occultic feel to come through in “The Way to Entelechy”- influences worth noting in this particular track are The Shining.
Dischordant and chaotic switches between dark and heavy black metal influences ensure the listener is kept constantly engaged within this release with distinct Bethlehem influences strewn through “MMXX”. Sample use and a military feel is added to the mix in “Signs in the Sand” with some technical drumming and a more traditional take on mid paced galloping black metal riffs. A hard-hitting approach and uncompromising approach is taken with the vocal style within this track.
A thrash black metal take within “Crowd of Faceless” takes another thrashy introduction before switching into pure occultic black metal and seamlessly back while clean vocals adds another dismal layer to this track. Some tracks focus on pure occultic black metal and is very applicable lyrically to the topics such as “From the Knowledge of Ignorance” combining occultic concepts and texts. “The Search for Truth” is as searing and uncompromising as the title suggests filled with galloping riffs, blasting drums and slow vocal interludes before switching styles spasmodically to create a truly chaotic and occultic track.
A final depressive black metal track with heavy shining influences provides a fitting instrumental finale to this release with slow and depressive feels at the start before launching into a hard-hitting black metal track that we have come to expect from Beyond Helvete.
Pure organised chaos and aggressive takes on black metal- Beyond Helvete have created an excellent and ear catching black metal release for those who enjoy their diversity within the scene. Nine tracks and thirty minutes of occultic chaos- we genuinely look forward to seeing what Beyond Helvete release in the future. –Lilith and Obscvre
