As I sit here ready to write another review, I think to myself ‘what defines art?’ I mean is there an official undeniable definition? Or is all art unique and meaningful in its own way?
Well, today we have a very interesting perspective on art, one that focuses on the darkness and despair of the world around us. I present to you
-Time Ran Out by Graveyard
So, this is the latest release by legendary underground Black/Death metal band and my first experience with them myself, but after reading what they wrote for the record on their Bandcamp it had me as excited as ever.
Turns out it was for good reason because what they bring to the table is an exciting and refreshingly sadistic take on the fusion of ‘Black Metal’ and ‘Death Metal’.
Firstly, something they do that I don’t hear a lot of bands using either or both of these specific genres is the use of sound clips and voice samples before and sometimes at the end of each track, I love that! I notice a lot of Punk/Garage Rock bands use these types of things but never normally Black/Death Metal and I gotta tell you when they do it, it just adds that much more intensity to the brutality they already bring in spades!!
When it comes to the production of the album it feels cleaner the most (cleaner as in mastered well) rather than purposefully Unmastered and left raw to give it that ‘Down To Earth’ and ‘Rough Around The Edges’ feel to it.
Although the production is cleaner than most this doesn’t take away from any of the chaos or havoc that the singer and the rest of the band pull off and how torturous they make the record sound. The vocalist especially sounds rather unhinged with this deeper, monstrous interpretation of the death growl, one that (to me at least) is very unique.
If you're window shopping for something different to tingle your sonic tastebuds then metalheads I’ve found you the best thing on the market! Trust me this thing has freshness to last and the quality is top notch!
It’s guaranteed brutality, with the extra seasonings of
-Deranged
-Lunacy
-Aggression and
-Insanity
All wrapped up in one travel size record, come give it a listen now and taste the power! –Corban Skipwith
