Poem: 'The Price of Joy' by Heather Dawson

The Price of Joy

My skin unbroken smooth unlined for years
Without deep emotions no deep traces so life was without blemish but without passion
Seemed like a mirage and a miracle
But this served me well - Until you
Now I laugh ...I smile... I think and I dream
And as all this happens - I change and grow
And the mask once flawless now shows the remnants of the day
I worry - if I feel too much and it shows too much it will damage me to the point of you passing me by ...
So in this Escher drawing of emotion I cannot escape the inevitable - my joy will forever change my facade - and I pray you will remain and continue to change me
