Full Length Review: Alestorm "Seventh Rum of a Seventh Rum" (Napalm Records) by Devin J. Meaney

Band: Alestorm
Country: Scotland
Genre: Power metal, folk metal
Format: CD, digital album, cassette
Label: Napalm Records
Release date: June 24, 2022
Recently I have been ordering a lot of physical media. One of the albums I recently snagged (and this one I got as a present for Christmas from a friend) was “Seventh Rum of a Seventh Rum” by Alestorm. This one is a pro-release cassette that was pro-packaged. The cassette itself is a pretty tree green and the sound is quite nostalgic.
Now, anyone who knows of “pirate metal” knows of Alestorm. Just like their previous releases this album is chock full of vicious riffs, lyrics and vocals that are easy to sing along to, tight percussion—and overall this tape is a complete win. I quit drinking alcohol a few years back so the main downside with this one is that it induces cravings to be rum-drunk while sailing the seven seas—or at the very least downing a beer on a patio during a summer heat wave. I guess I will need to settle for a coffee…and I guess my “Cuban cigar” vape juice is “pirate” enough!
To anyone that likes a good time and upbeat tuneage I’d suggest this one…and again, even though I don’t partake in the consumption of alcoholic beverages anymore—to anyone that does still drink the firewater I’d heartily suggest picking up a quart of the finest rum and throwing this one in your tape deck. If you don’t own the album already or are too broke to purchase it I’m pretty sure the whole release is available for free on YouTube and other places—so put on your pirate hat and prepare to shake your wooden leg…this is a great one! -Devin J. Meaney
