Tell the readers about the projects you are currently involved in and how they’ll benefit the occult community.

We have been behind the scenes in our three Vampire Courts of Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne. Each one has been growing steadily over the last three years and with all the talented members we are starting to see some unique projects blossom. We now have a focus on the ritual aspect and the martial aspect as well. Our members are encouraged to strengthen their mental as well as physical prowess. To understand more of who they are as a person and to understand their vampire selves.

Personally, I have many creative endeavors coming up which are as varied as the number of masks I own! I have recently created a ‘choose your own twisted tale’ game called “The Scarlet Gallery”. It is available online (website: itch.io) and you play as a detective trying to solve a murder. Of course, this is me we are talking about so there are plenty of unpleasant deaths, truly weird situations, and monsters you encounter. The game plays like a story but includes visuals and audio tracks. There are over fifty endings so there is plenty of replayability in there for those who are keen to complete it! I’d like to give a big shout out to Professor Brink who did all the hard work developing the game!

My first novel is now under construction and ties in a lot of the short-stories that many of my fans have come to know. It will be in the horror genre which is no surprise and takes place in the fictitious town of Cross-Roads Louisiana. The protagonist is a cowboy by the name of Thomas Graves who has more than his fair share of the limelight in my stories so far.

Various stage shows and films have started to ask for my services recently in regards to the props and masks that I build. One of the more interesting ones was for an independent movie created by Ally Ryan called “The Art of Loathing” which involved 16 sheeple (humanoid sheep) masks and a Sheep Queen mask. Truly the stuff of nightmares!

Willem Whitfield has written a stage show called “Hello Gaz Rhumbo!” and I have been cast to play “Father” in the performance. I have worked with Willem many times behind the scenes as many things from creating miniature cities to being a narrator for performance and also the “monster of the week”. Now I’m on stage out from behind the mask in this piece and am looking forward to the amazing show it will become!

The prop building bleeds over (no pun intended) into the Vampire Courts with my fangsmithing which is in the works and will be available very soon to the public.

And finally, there is a charity open house night for our Vampire Court in Brisbane on February 29 where we will be asking for donations for the Australian bushfires. We have members who have been affected as well as those who are helping all across our country and we wish we could do more.

How did you become interested in vampires and vampirism? What research did you do on those subjects and how did it lead to your involvement with the Vampire Courts?

The best answer I can give to these questions is to refer to a DVD called – “Vampyres This Is Not Fiction... It's Real”, an old 2007 documentary that featured a lot of well-known members of the vampire community. This is what spurred me to leave Australia and find them across the world in 2009. When I realized I wasn't alone and there were others it helped answer a lot of my questions and it has been a journey of discovery ever since. Now in 2020, I have many vampires I call good friends across Australia who share the same idea of community as I do in our three courts of Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. It’s actually really exciting and proud to see them grow and flourish from what was essentially nothing into thriving communities today.

What video company released “Vampyres This Is Not Fiction... It's Real” in 2007? Who is interviewed in this documentary, and is the information provided still relevant today?

The people interviewed are Father Sebastiaan, Maven Lore, and Belfazaar Ashantison and a host of others who were happy to share their views on the subject matter. I feel it is relevant due to the diversity of the groups and also as to what it was like back in the early 2000s and how things have changed with today's technology.

Where did your journey to find vampire communities in other parts of the world take you? What convinced you that vampires were kindred spirits to you?

I started first and foremost with Australia and went to Sydney and Melbourne. Eventually, I ended up in New Orleans which is sometimes referred to as the "Vampire Mecca" and from those interactions, I have made some very good friends within the vampire community stretching across the waters. I think, once you know - you know! Unless you are a vampire it’s hard to describe. In the simplest terms, it would be resonating with the same frequency as another.

What are the differences between a Vampire Court and a Vampire House? How widespread and well known are the Vampire Courts in the occult world?

Our terminology of what makes a Court different to a House is that a Court is local (eg: Brisbane) and the House encompasses all its Courts (ie: across Australia only). Its purpose is to create a place for vampires and their donors/black swans to congregate and share knowledge, ask questions and educate each other in a safe environment. As far as how well known it is in the occult community, it is known to those who are searching for us. Some of our work crosses over into other local groups so we are becoming more well-known with each passing day.

How long have you known Goddess Rosemary of Temple House Sahjaza? What projects have you and she worked on together since you became friends?

Goddess Rosemary and I have known each other for some time and I do believe I will be featured in one of Sahjaza's upcoming books. I am sure there will be more projects to come so stay tuned!

What book by Temple House Sahjaza will you be featured in? How soon is it being released and how prominently are you being showcased in it?

I can’t discuss the title at this stage; one of my hexes will be featured. Some people may understand what I did but I'd like to see other practitioners’ experiences with it once it is out in the world.

How did you come up with the idea for “The Scarlet Gallery”? From the way you describe it, how does it offer something different to gaming communities?

It is set within the mythos of my other short stories and was the thought of what would happen if one of my main protagonists went up against an antagonist of equal or better strength. It actually caused both of their worlds to become more fleshed out and it is going to have far more reaching consequences within my world-building. The Scarlet Gallery “event” you attend in the game is loosely based on the works of Gunther von Hagens who has his own event in real life called “Body Worlds”. In this event, he displays cadavers using a plastination technique. I added a supernatural element to this as well as a murder mystery. You are not just reading a story, you are controlling the story with each choice you make. The audio and visuals enhance the experience for the player as they get closer and closer to unlocking the true ending of the game. It is very different from the usual platformers or FPS games that rely heavily on graphics of the game or gameplay. This game offers a story and more immersion. The Scarlet Gallery is available right now to play on Windows (only) through the itch.io website.

How many projects did Professor Brink work on or have a hand in working on before he helped with developing the video game?

Professor Brink has been a developer on many personal projects and his works can be found on the itch.io website along with my game. He is a very talented individual and I was recommended to him through mutual friends for this special project.

How long have you been developing the characters and storyline of your novel? How many short stories did you write before starting your novel, and how will those stories be tied in?

I have written approximately thirty-three short stories so far for the “Tales of the Twisted” series. All of the events and places happen in the same universe so there is an underlying mythos connecting them all.

What can you fill the readers in on about your involvement in “The Art of Loathing” and “Hello Gaz Rhumbo!” along with other film and show projects you will be involved in?

A lot of advertising has mainly been through Facebook and email. We have also been doing a lot of word of mouth and any way we can think of to get the word out there.

How much advertising have you done for your open house charity night? Tell the readers where it will be held and how much of a response you’re expecting at this stage?

The fundraiser for the 2020 Bushfires will be held at Thr333fold at 3 Sixth Ave, Sandgate QLD 4017 this Saturday night the 29th of February from 5pm. See you all there!

I recently got wind of a major event in the planning stages, that you are co-producing with Stefan Henderson. Many people have been invited to get involved. Tell the readers what this event is, where it’s being held and its significance?

Indeed. Stefan Henderson, aka Lord Stefan Resurrectus and I are co-producing the second annual Elder and Leadership Summit. This event has been created to stimulate face-to-face interaction, problem-solving, education & collaboration for the betterment of the Greater Nightkind Community: Vampire, Pagan, Therian or Otherkin.

I am very proud to say that this year the Summit will be taking place right here in New Jersey, with the majority of the gatherings happening at my “home away from home” QXT’s Night Club! Located at 248 Mulberry Street, just a few blocks away from Newark Penn Station. We are very excited and can’t wait for our four days of networking, discovery, education, and fun, beginning Thursday, May 28th.

We seek to continue the spirit of what we began at our first Summit in Georgia spring of 2019. To continue to offer Elders, Leaders and fledglings alike, the opportunity to sit down in the same room, get to know each other in person, and discuss important topics that will encourage further collaboration, problem-solving, deeper understanding of techniques, as well as a deeper understanding of self and others. We hope to heal old wounds, build new bridges and motivate our many fragmented groups to grow together as a Community that shares interests, challenges, and goals.

So yes, our 2020 Elder & Leadership Summit Planning Committee is still open to both seasoned and fresh presenters who wish to share their experiences and beliefs. We are open to presentations, workshops, classes and panels on Community building, leadership & communication skills, inner nature, personal development, energy work, innovation, mysticism and all other topics that may appeal to the multifaceted individuals that make up or very colorful Nightkind Community, be they Vampires, Pagans, Therians or Otherkin. We are also looking for Merchants, Art Exhibitors and Authors.

How successful was the first annual Elder and Leadership Summit? Who were the guests involved and what did they contribute?

The 2019 Summit was what I would call intimate but it was without doubt very successful. It was a special and rare blessing indeed to be counted among the participants, representatives and distinguished dignitaries from so many Nightkind organizations across the country, which included: Georgia, Washington State, Colorado, Louisiana, California, Illinois, and New Jersey just to name a few.

Together with members from the Court of the Iron Garden and my international coven, House of the Dreaming, I offered a sacred Affirmation Ceremony. It was my interest to affirm, solidify and elevate the ancient blood within us so that it will continue to flow, revitalize & strengthen our journey as leaders and future leaders - today, tomorrow & for years to come, empowering all of us in our renewed Dream of Community.

Some of the more vocal participants at last year’s Summit were Anya Magdalena Rakoczy of House Rakoczy, Lestelle Dawn of the Coven of the Articulate, Janet White of Clan Resurrectus, Derek Lestat of the Greater Chicagoland Coalition, Alex Longineet of the Court of the Iron Garden, Mistress Nyx Fury of House of the Dreaming, Wendy Kestler, and of course Stefan Henderson.

The educational presentations offered a variety of explorative opportunities. My very favorites were a very informative presentation on Enochian magick, the sanguine exchange demonstration, and the workshop on the energy of gems and minerals. The private Elder Meetings were also very constructive focused on sincere dialogue, identifying common challenges and collaborative solutions. But I must say, the highlight of the event was certainly Stefan’s and Anastasia’s Wedlock Ceremony and the beautiful exchange of vows, spotlighting the vocals of the Community’s own Baron Misuraca.

Who among your friends and contacts has expressed interest in this year’s event since you started inviting guests?

I am delighted to see that this year’s Summit agenda has indeed sparked the interest of my friends and colleagues, and we haven’t yet really begun to promote. Many of last year’s attending Elders have already confirmed interest in returning including Wendy Kestler, Janet White, Derek Lestat, Lestele Dawn, and Alex Longineet. While it’s too early for the Planning Committee to announce who will be attending and who will be presenting; at this time I can certainly disclose that we are showcasing Rune Readings by return attendee Bakaal aka Wes Reeves, Tarot & Bone Readings by Lady Aubrianna, and Fangsmithing by the infamous Tom The Misfit of Costume Fangs NYC.

It sounds like there is an extremely healthy occult scene in New York and New Jersey, as well as other states across the U.S. How long have you been involved in what’s going on locally and what interested you in this lifestyle?

New York and New Jersey have always walked hand in hand when it comes to their joint interest in the occult and mysticism. Immediately coming to mind is NJ native Henry Steel Olcott, the first president of the NY Chapter of the Theosophic Society. And since then, there have been so many others who have exchanged blood and ideas between our two states, to pave the road for where we are today.

I have been interested in the occult ever since I can remember. It’s simply part of who I am. By ’75 I had already become an avid reader and collector of books on the subject. My first fascination was with extra sensory perception, mediumship, and divination. I have been involved in the ‘scene’ since the NYC Coven Days of the mid 80’s. A time before the internet, when we met in secret at each other’s homes, or otherwise covertly announced our back-room-meetings on The Village Voice, a local NYC newspaper. Rob, host of the old alternative club The Mission, Mike, host of The Cat Club, and Herman Slater, proprietor of the old occult center The Magickal Childe were some of the very first individuals I met, who facilitated gatherings where the occult and vampirism were openly discussed. Back in the 90’s I ran The Rift, an arts forum guild catering to the beautiful children of the night, where I hosted various events on both sides of the Hudson at locations like Archetypus in Edgewater NJ, The Pulse Theatre in Midtown Manhattan, CBGB´s Gallery, and of course at my favorite location Madame X Lounge. I was an early member of SNOG (NYC), co-founder of the original Iron Garden (NJ) back in the 90’s, the first citizen of the Court of Lazarus (NY), the first bearer of the Order of the Black Marble … Currently, I am the Matriarch of House of the Dreaming [est. 2000] and the Primus of the Iron Garden [resurrected in 2015] among other roles with other lesser-known Community organizations.

For me, it’s an inner calling. I am simply compelled to serve our Community. I have met amazing individuals that both humble and inspire me. I feel I am making a difference for those around me – some call me sister, muse, teacher … even mom. In reaching out to others I build myself. I really can’t imagine a more meaningful life-path or growing experience.

What occult/spiritual paths have you taken on since discovering the occult underground/ Nightkind Community and how have they been beneficial to you?

I love that question. Yes, we learn, grow and evolve. Evolution becomes more dynamic, more pointed, with the level of exposure and interaction, not just with truths and understandings, but also as a response to those who we encounter on our journey, regardless if they walk our path, a parallel path, or a diametrically opposed one. In my life, I have had two major awakenings that stand out among all the other layers.

When I was seven years old my schoolmates stoned me for being a witch. I guess they saw thru me, into what I thought was just natural. This very cathartic event propelled me into a deeper understanding of who I was – a natural-born witch. I accepted that layer of myself well into my late 20’s. I studied witchcraft, sorcery, necromancy and often used the term sanguine witch. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to deepen my path by studying Taoist, Native American, and Urban Shamanism. Shamanism will always be at the core of my beliefs; it is the basic truth of all magic. I also studied Yoga and T'ai chi ch'üan for years. I studied Ceremonial Magick, Palo Mayombe, and Chaos Magick…

My second major awakening was just as cathartic. I almost perished in my attempt to test what I had denied about myself for years. I had been told repeatedly I was a vampire, but it simply was not my truth. I resolved to test it and consciously abstain from interpersonal interactions and any type of energy absorption. This test catalyzed my ‘dark night of the soul’. The results were dangerously evident; I would simply come apart without vitality exchange. This changed forever how I perceived who I was and my role in the Community. It was time I accepted I was Vampire. I emerged ready to take my cumulative Nightside experiences and the wisdom I had garnered, combine them with my Dayside, manifest my potential and become who I was intended to be. I became a minister, a priestess, and a guide. I started my own coven, took in acolytes and embraced a more visible role in the Community. From the Awakening to the Becoming.

Since Magickal Childe, Other Worldly Waxes and the old Enchantments closed down, are there newer occult shops open in Manhattan and New Jersey? Which of them would you recommend?

The only constant in the universe is change. It is, however, disconcerting to look back and observe the ebb and flow of those havens around us, which has also forced us to change and grow into newness. The new Enchantments shop isn’t bad. I’ve picked up a few things there recently. But my favorite metaphysical shop is in Clifton New Jersey, Botanica San Lazaro. It’s a beautiful space replete with treated candles, fresh herbs, oils, books and other tools we simply can’t live without. They offer yoga classes in their Inner Peace Center upstairs, and from time to time they also host psychic fairs. Plus they have a very accessible and knowledgeable staff, who is very helpful and accommodating. I would most certainly recommend Botanica San Lazaro to anyone who is procuring everyday magical staples or the more hard to find components. When you go, tell them Madame X sent you.

Are there any memorable tales from those shops you mentioned that are worth recounting in this article?

Back in the 80’s at The Magickal Childe, Herman Slater was a terrific influence on me. Not only did he prepare the most remarkable potions for us seekers of the magickal arts, but he conducted the most powerful, transformative gnostic masses; a great inspiration to my own ceremonies to be sure.

I also recall with fondness the Full-Moon Circles held at Enchantments back in the 80’s & early 90’s. Sister Carol of Enchantments, better known today as Lady Miw Sekhmet, would share with me such profound wisdom, reminding me of what deep inside I already knew. I often think back on her eyes and attribute my determination to the tools and acumen she lovingly placed on my hands over 30 years ago.

Today’s Enchantments still offers caring personalized services that reflect the spirit of old. I find their magical candles and apothecary selections to still transmit the heart and soul of both Carol and Herman. Cat and Tom are knowledgeable, articulate and sincere – what more can we ask for?!

A few years ago, my international coven, House of the Dreaming held an unforgettable gathering at Botanica San Lazaro. We were extremely satisfied with the care, attention, and generosity of the proprietor, Lorenzo Martes; all our guests raved about the shop. We were so pleased to welcome our international members and our friends from NJ, NY & PA to this warm, modern space to participate in meditation, open discussion and, of course, ‘shopping’. I continue to collaborate with Botanica San Lazaro at our Iron Garden gatherings. They are welcome purveyors of pagan goods, services, and have also presented educational segments and spiritual ceremonies for our group.

I hope both Enchantments and Botanica San Lazaro are available to join us as merchants for the Summit.

Who in the occult Community - musicians, practitioners, authors - have you met or established friendships with over the years?

You know, its questions like this that get me in trouble. How can I possibly mention all the many friends I have made over the years? As I said I have been in the Community for over 3 decades… and I strive to keep my friendships. And goodness, I certainly wouldn’t want to misrepresent them… But I do love to spread the love so hope it is perceived just for what it is. Here are just a few names you may recognize.

Goddess Rosemary Sahjaza (ID) - High Priestess & Spiritual Mother of Temple House Sahjaza. Some may know her as Goddess Rosemary, others as Silky Rose; I call her Sister with a capital S. Goddess Rosemary is the loving mother figure and Grand Elder for countless many in our Community always offering encouraging advice and a warming embrace. When the going gets tough, it’s my Sister Rosemary I turn to for sound advice. Hailing from the same roots of the ‘NY Coven Days’ and of underground fetish parties, Rosemary and I share many friends and interesting stories, but by far the most remarkable story is the one told by those who have been transformed by her generous wisdom.

Patrick Rodgers (PA) – Best known for being a concert promoter, DJ, and the big boss at Dancing Ferret; he is also an author, as well as the beguiling interview host of the YouTube program “Interviewed by a Vampire”. Patrick and I first met in 1998 at the very first Dracula’s Ball he hosted. Patrick is a beautiful man, charismatic, traveled, intelligent and an avid consumer advocate. It’s no wonder I became a frequent attendee of Patrick’s fantabulous music soirees in Philadelphia. His multifaceted efforts and creative drive to build Community is truly inspiring.

Father Sebastiaan (CA) – Infamous fangsmith, author, club promoter, and impresario. He is best known as the founder of Clan Sabretooth. He is also the most controversial figure of the modern-day vampire Community, despite having been the very architect of it. It was his NYC Vampire Balls that first brought the Vampire to light; I was there, but many of my friends refused to attend and come out of the coffin. I didn’t meet Sebastiaan at the first grand ball of ’96, we were already friends from years back, as we frequented the same music clubs and shared similar interests. Through the decades we have collaborated on a variety of Community projects including subculture books, events, and socials. I can’t wait to see what he has up his sleeve.

Baron Misuraca (NY) – Vocalist, Musician, Conceptual Artist and overall Renaissance-Man of the Arts. He is the bassist & vocalist for the international acclaim band Carnivore A.D., but is still best known for being the long-time vocalist for the Gothic Metal band Vasaria and for his retro music show the Vampire Lounge. The Baron commands his audience with his debonair stage presence and his silky mane. The Barron and I first met at the old NYC vampire club Mother’s back in the 90’s. Since then, we have fostered a working friendship; I’ve shared in each other’s company on stage at QXT’s, at the Iron Garden, and at BatStock functions. It was wonderful to put work aside and have the opportunity to casually socialize at last year’s Elder and Leadership Summit.

Michelle Belanger (OH) – Founder of House Kheperu, Author, Teacher, and Singer. Who in our Community has not heard of Michelle Belanger? She is a renowned author, researcher, paranormal specialist, television personality, and is ‘the’ leading authority on vampires in fiction, folklore, and modern culture. Back in the mid 90’s before we even met in person, Michelle and I were both working independently in different corners of the US on very similar literary projects designed to draw out others who shared our Nightkind identity. When we finally met, we immediately recognized each other as spiritual sisters. I consider myself honored to have had the opportunity to interact with Michelle in person, both with Community and musical endeavors. She will always be a welcome guest at my home.

Margot Day (VT) – Singer, flutist, poet, and songwriter. Margot Day is the centerpiece goddess of the witchy-goth musical duo Metamorph. Margo and I first met in the 90’s at GBGB’s Gallery at a club night aptly called Alchemy. I couldn’t help but identify with her transcending lyrics and voice. She has the soul of a seasoned witch, the heartbeat of a passionate poet, and the voice of a Nightingale on a rainy moonlit night. We just had to be friends. Over the years, Margot has had an extremely busy calendar, yet she has always found the time to be a steadfast supporter of my Community efforts; like the 2000 NJ Goth Challenge at Connections and the Iron Garden. We’re so due for another visit.

Doktor John (NJ) – Journalist, Reporter and Artist. Many may know him as the journalist who for nearly 20 years chronicled of the Gothic, Punk and Industrial scenes in The Aquarian Weekly, a NJ-based regional newspaper focused on alternative events and rock music. Our eyes locked across a crowded dance floor at The Bank in NYC, and we immediately became friends. We’ve shared many scene moments together at music concerts, poetry nights and social events. Dokor John has been a supporter of all my Community events, including The Rift, the NJ Goth Challenges, as well as the Iron Garden. It would be great to have him exhibit his art at this years’ Elder Summit, particularly that piece he painted me in.

Myke Hiddeous (NJ) – Vocalist, Songwriter, Author, Photographer, and Artist. Best known for being the founder and frontman for the gothic rock band The Empire Hideous, he also sang lead vocals for SpySociety99 and The Misfits among others. Myke is a wonderfully complex man brimming with genius and mystery, who never ceases to amaze me with his talents and determination. We’ve shared a delightful friendship since the 90’s. I have been inspired by his profound artistry with the canvas and paintbrush, I have modeled for one of his photography projects, and may even appear on one of his upcoming music videos, so stay tuned.

Genoveva Rossi (NJ) – Actress, Scream Queen, Writer, Model, and Professional Psychic. Knowing Genoveva has been an adventure, her days are filled with action-packed off-the-beaten-path fun. Although I promised never to disclose for how long we have been friends, we have certainly spent many evenings together dancing, stargazing and enjoying the camaraderie carved by our mutual thirst for the occult, the macabre and the supernatural. Once, we even feasted on a freshly slaughtered willing sacrificial victim… and we have pictures to prove it!

Don Henrie (CA) – Actor and Model, best known as The Vampire Don or The Vampire Emperor due to his appearance on the reality show Mad House. He is one of the few individuals who are perfect for the public eye; he is savvy, well-spoken, charismatic and good-looking, which transmits a very favorable image, not just for himself, but for the whole Nightkind Community. Don and I met in NYC at a social event hosted by mutual friends where we bonded over shared drinks and engaged in a bit of energy play. We may live across the country from each other but we’ve managed to keep an eye out for one another, always look for the random opportunity to catch up for drinks.

Jeffrey Jene (NY) – Magician, Grand Illusionist, Actor, Artist, Singer, Writer, Animator and yes, he is a bit of a juggler too. He would have to be to combine all this with his pointed interest in metaphysics and the occult. Jeffrey and I met at QXT’s back in 2010 and I immediately recognized him as part of my soul family. It is rare to find someone so talented, dedicated and persevering, with a nurturing heart always aiming to lighten the spirits of those around him with magic, wonderment, laughter, and pleasure. Jeffrey is a Citizen of the Court of Lazarus in NYC and from time to time joins us at the Iron Garden to offer us a special treat.

Kai Irina Hahn (NY) – Singer, Actress, Event Producer, and all-around Bad Ass Diva. Kai is best known for being the lead singer for the EBM Dark Wave band The Sedona Effect and being the keyboardist and back-up vocalist for NOIR. But Kai is also the producer of the yearly Vampire Cruise on the Hudson, which I had the pleasure to be stage manager for last year. Kai and I met in the summer of 2013 at the Tuxedo Park Renaissance Faire and I was immediately captivated by her fantastic accent and European flair. We share many interests including a love for visual arts, martial arts, roleplaying, and of course vampire mischief.

Amara Willey (NJ) – Elder of Hands of Change Coven, Founding Elder of the Pagan Pan Council and Creatrix of Mind Body Spirit Home. Also known as Crow, she is the driving force behind Ishtarfest, the Pagan Picnic, and the public Full Moon Rituals hosted by HoC. Lorraine and I met thru Facebook in 2015 but because of our mutual international exploits, it wasn’t until 2018 that we finally connected in person. Lorraine and I share a passion for globetrotting. Like me, she has traveled extensively, including remote locations in Asia & South America as both a student and teacher. We are very blessed to have her as a frequent presenter at the Iron Garden.

Eddie Massey (PA) – Author, Teacher, Artist, Psychic and Event Producer. Reverend E. Massey is a Ronin Elder of the Iron Garden, Founder of the Pocono Witches Festival & Ball, Owner of The Pocono Witch Shoppe, Psychic Investigator at Paranormal Spirit Finders and Founder of the Pocono Paranormal & Psychic Weekends. Exemplary Community leader of the Pocono region and practicing witch for the past 25 years, the Reverend and I share a mutual drive and were destined to meet. We will be conducting a lunar ceremony at Dark Side of the Con 4, this spring, and hope to collaborate on many future projects, so stay tuned.

What group from those you mentioned earlier is directly involved in planning the Elder and Leadership Summit each year? Who is on the event planning committee with you? Is this the same staff as you had last year or are there some new members?

Last year the event was planned primarily by key elements from Clan Resurrectus. This year we have a special Summit 2020 planning committee for our NJ based event. The planning committee is made up of the team of individuals that developed the NJ Bid for this year’s Summit, as well as, a few members of the Allied Coalition of Elders or rather ACE. ACE was formed at last year’s Summit, where all of its members are Community Elders who were present at the 2019 Summit. Our 2020 Summit Planning Committee is entirely different than last year although there is some overlap, however half the team is new to the Summit planning effort. This is the dedicated team that makes up the 2020 Elder & Leadership Summit Committee:

What role or roles will you be taking on during the Summit? Does it include being a presenter?

I think my primary role with the Summit is happening right now. I am in essence the lead when it comes to producing this event. Together with our planning committee, I developed the 4-day agenda and will continue to work on cultivating just the right combination of presenters to make this event a thrilling success.

I have thrown in my hat to present on the History of the Vampire Community; since I am one of the grand-elders of the VC and have experienced much of it first hand, I feel particularly qualified to speak on the subject. Yet, as a seasoned teacher and presenter, I can also offer a lecture or workshop on a variety of other topics like dream-work, awakenings & becoming, energy exchange techniques, vampire craft, building Community, etc.… I am certainly open to present on whatever topic the Planning Committee feels would be most beneficial. I don’t expect we will know exactly what I’m presenting on until the Committee has fully considered all other submitted proposals. The Elders & Leadership Summit is not about any one person, but about the greater Community.

Where have you been doing your most aggressive promotion for the Summit?

Since we are in the early stage of securing presenters, we have depended primarily on word of mouth and sharing the news on some select special interest groups. I don’t think a full-out advertising campaign is what we really want. It’s not our interest to attract everyone; instead, we’d prefer to attract those individuals that are already involved in vampirism, paganism, therianthropy, witchcraft, and already grasp the integration of the deeper shades of magick and self-identification. As we get closer to the date, we may release public service announcements both on social and on print media; after all, it’s not just about this particular event, it’s about raising awareness about the elders of today, the leaders of tomorrow and how to best foster open-dialogue, cooperation, networking and fraternity.

Are there any topics you would like to see covered besides those you discussed? Who else would you like to see attend?

Regarding topics, it would be great to have a shadow-self workshop. I feel it would be very beneficial to explore what the shadow-self is, to discover the benefits of reintegrating with our shadow-self and perceive it as an ally.

Another topic of interest would be the worship of ancient gods, discovering pathways to better connect with the essence of ancient deities and maybe even touch upon the dangers of communing with the darker divinities.

I would also love to see a panel discussing addressing “What is an Elder” it would be interesting to hear the different requirements for Elderhood from different groups and hear the opinions and expectations of what elders should embody.

Another idea would be a panel discussing “Elder Needs”. Elders are often perceived as impervious, and although that would be ideal, it is far from the truth. Elders often find themselves isolated and lacking in support networks.

… Meanwhile, in addition to the wonderful creatures I mentioned before, I would love to see more of my House of the Dreaming Family attend the Summit like Master Deacon, Lady Sequanna, Bholanath, Khan, Ezikiel, Hesperus and Queen.

It would be wonderful if some of the Iron Garden Elders like Lady Talon, Sir Dario, Lady D, and all our Citizens joined in the fun.

What is the future of the pagan/occult community in Manhattan and New Jersey from your perspective?

One of the biggest troubles of our Community (and not just NY & NJ) is that pagan/occult groups and organizations are typically decentralized, fragmented and isolated from one another. For a community that is anchored on accepting diversity, we can sure be a judgmental unforgiving lot, ostracizing each other for diverging beliefs and personal choices. Our Community could certainly benefit from cohesive stability. Larger institutions can ensure permanence and efficacy, but at the same time, these institutions can become static, resistant, and pedestrian. New concepts, approaches, and out-of-the-box thinking generally stem from smaller groups on the fringes of the Community. For these reasons I believe it is crucial that we come together, if not always, at least on special occasions, like this Summit, to share, grow and create according to our collective evolving needs. We are part of the generation that has brought us a very daring brand of progressive paganism. I foresee that together we will usher in an even more inclusive, dynamic and productive post-modern approach to our joint communities: a reclaiming of the vampire, a deeper relatability for otherkin, and a more holistic attitude to magickal thought. I envision our contemporary Community growing toward a resilient empowered collective that will enable limitless spiritual and cultural evolution.

Interview with Emily Walker of THE VAMPIRE COURT OF THE LIVE OAK

The Vampire Court of the Live Oak, a local enclave from southwest Georgia, is said to “provide a safe haven for Georgia’s dark awakened and give back to the community we dwell in.” How did this group start, and what is your involvement with them?

The Vampire Court of the Live Oak was born and created after I moved to Georgia. I was a part of the Vampire Court of Austin when I lived in Texas. When I moved here to southwest Georgia I was completely taken aback that there seemed to be, not to my knowledge at the time, a court or safe haven in the entire state. I found this to be very upsetting, seeing as I knew there was interest in other vampires locally, but they have never had such a place to gather and consider family.

I found out later that there were indeed other vampires and communities but it was farther up north of the state and not easily accessible for me and my newfound people. With much encouragement and support of the monarchs of Austin, they gave me the tools and education to start a court here. Over a course of three months, of putting out the information and news of such a court being made, it was decided by the vampires of my city and surrounding counties that I would be made queen. I was very surprised and honored by this. And still am after two years from that day that I was considered for such a position.

After talking with the people of Columbus about what we wanted to achieve here, we decided that we, like several other courts in the U.S. wanted to make charity and the wellbeing of our community our first priority, not only serving the dark awakened but all the people that dwell and live in our home. We started doing small things like volunteering at the local shelters and food banks, building care packages to the homeless that migrate in the downtown areas, and raise funds for awareness, of several campaigns such as suicide prevention, and child abuse. In February of 2018, I filed with the state of Georgia to incorporate our name, The Vampire Court of the Live Oak Inc. to become a fully functioning nonprofit organization. As of March 2018, not only are we fully incorporated but also 501c certified with the IRS and Secretary of State of Georgia.

It seems like forever since I started this journey, but it’s only been a short wonderful year. We have accomplished so many things and are expecting an even brighter future.

Who did you found The Vampire Court with, and how did you spread word that you were seeking like-minded individuals to join?

I found the court solely on my own. I did have mentors who answered questions I had, those of which are elders in the community and leaders in their own light. I am very grateful for these individuals I don’t know where I would be without them. We do outreach to find likeminded individuals who may want to join the court, mainly by word of mouth and announcing public meet and greets to potential members to answer any questions in a “break the ice and stigma” of what the vampire community is portrayed in mundane society. Living in the Bible Belt of the South we do take precautions to not draw to much negative attention to ourselves and to also protect our members’ dayside lives.

How long did The Vampire Court work to become a fully functioning and certified nonprofit organization?

It didn’t take long for us when we knew what we wanted to do and how to go about it. Within six months of the court being founded we were fully functioning.

What is the meaning of the term “dark awakened”? Does The Vampire Court work to attain academic or spiritual pantheons?

Dark awakened is a term given to those who came to a realization in their life that they are not just an average human. They are something more spiritual, more enlightened if not somewhat supernatural. An awakening is not something that is strictly for vampires but also fae or “otherkin” as we call them; people who identify with animalistic habits such as that of a wolf. The people of this court are responsible and free to fallow their own academic and spiritual paths, though we offer guidance and education on certain subjects to those who are interested.

How does your group arrive at this realization? Define fae and otherkin in relation to the principles of The Vampire Court.

I think the awakening varies from person to person. Some experience supernatural symptoms such as visions, past life dreams etc. Some experience more of a physical aspect. Increased thirst, increased sensitivity to light, or sounds, change in sleeping patterns or becoming ill more often if not obtaining energy in some source. Otherkin are people who identify as anything other than vampires. Fae people have their own types of awakenings, for me, as also identify as fae.

I am dark fae, or succubi. I started noticing the change with my increase of sexual desire, my desire for sweets, the irritation of certain metals and my sensitivity to high pitched sound frequencies. My knowledge of otherkin in an animal aspect is slim, such as those who identify as wolves. I know a few and know of a few, but I cannot speak for their experiences for I do not know what they go through.

However as vampires, we have high senses, in an almost supernatural sense we can sort of “sniff out” other vampires and otherkin. It’s a sense of awareness for each other; almost animalistic; of one blood or species to another. We have a way of recognizing others of our tribe.

Was your own awakening a gradual process or a sudden realization of the changes occurring in you? Does The Vampire Court teach its members ways of recognizing and developing their awakenings?

My awakening was very sudden. I had a few changes here and there but nothing that was noticeable enough for me to think about. I happened like a revelation, for me it was a very dark time in my life, where nothing felt right to me. I felt like I was a stranger in my own skin.

Then one day I woke up and, I kid you not, it was like I was a new person embedded with this newfound wisdom and feel for everything around me. It was definitely a supernatural euphoric feeling. The court does offer valuable information and resources to help with newly awakened members, and seekers. A big tool that we suggest is any book written by Michelle Belanger.

Who is Michelle Belanger and what occult subjects is she most well-versed in? How many books has she published so far?

Michelle Belanger is kind of a staple go to in terms of information for the newly awakened in the community. Her books are often about the modern vampire, it’s life and just wisdom for those who experience it, I’ve always enjoyed her books and they were a great comfort to me. “Vampires in their own words” is one I tend to come back to often, I believe she has published 20 books.

Which of Belanger’s publications are you most likely to recommend to the readers? What would the readers would get out of them?

The book “Vampires In Their Own Words.” It’s basically an inside look on modern vampires today, their lifestyle, their wisdom, day to day goings.

I’ve heard about intolerance directed at witchcraft, occult and vampire groups. How much of a low profile does The Vampire Court take to avoid it?

My court is in a way divided. There are some members like me who are open about themselves and their lifestyles with no care for judgment. For instance my job. My very first day I remember shouting “I’m a vampire!” to all my coworkers, simply because I am just that comfortable with myself. I indeed got a lot of odd looks, haha.

I have members who are private. They keep their nightside lives separate from their dayside lives for the sake of their families and the belief systems they grew up in.

I have members in the military. We are a military prominent court, with a few high ranking officials, so you can imagine the lengths of privacy we have to go through to protect their identity from the government and prying eyes of the community. That type of sacrifice of self just comes with the job unfortunately. However the sole reason for creating this court was because these high ranking individuals found me through social media, through my husband who is military, and we had a conversation. As a soldier you travel a lot and duty stations change. This makes it difficult for military people to put roots down somewhere. A lot of my members have been part of the community for years but never had a readily available local safe haven they could rely on, that would not put their positions in jeopardy.

Being a military wife and understanding these guidelines opened a whole new world for these soldiers that they never had. I consider myself blessed to be able to give them that type of atmosphere and family, and support system so that they can be a part of the Vampire Court and feel included no matter where they are deployed or what life throws at them.

What job are you holding at present? On your first day, how much of a shock do you gather it was for your co-workers to be “confronted” with an actual vampire?

My profession, as a whole is complicated, haha. I am a jack of all trades. I mainly work for myself in real estate, I’m a model business owner. But the job I refer to is one of a bookstore in the town I live in. I am one of those people that grow tired of the same things, I need human interaction. Working for yourself has its perks but it can be lonely so I got a part time jobs simply to be around people and not fall into that dark recluse mode that I often do.

My first day being a vampire in the mundane work world, haha. Well I don’t think it really happened in a crazy manner; it was one of those “hi my name is Emily and I’m a vampire... no really I am” I’m sure they thought I was nuts, but working in an atmosphere of book lovers and nerds it was not as far-fetched as you would imagine. There are coworkers that know I’m serious and know the truth of who and what I am. But there are some that just think I’m an overwhelming Anne Rice fan, and that’s ok too. In reality both are correct, haha.

Have any co-workers taken an interest in learning more about you and The Vampire Court since you started being open and candid about your involvement with them? How much do you talk to them about vampires, fae and otherkin?

Yes actually, haha, I have several coworkers that joke about me being the resident vampire. But a few have been curious, and a few think I’m crazy but that’s fine haha. I do have a coworker that joined my court shortly after meeting me, I helped her through her awakening which was pretty cool to be honest. I considered it a blessing, as if I was meant to be at this job, time and place to help those on their path of understanding who they are. But it definitely makes the work environment more entertaining haha. I’m an open book; if they ask questions I answer freely. In the past some interest has been had, usually around the times of the events I attend. My coworkers find it fascinating, and of course I’m very active on social media about the lifestyle which they see. That often sparks topic conversation at work. But hey, it makes the days go by.

To what extent did you help your co-worker with her awakening? Will she be getting involved with The Vampire Court or other activities you’re involved in?

The process of helping with an awakening doesn’t really have a set time where a vampire is like “ok I’m good now I know everything.” Because you are always learning, changing and growing as an individual in the community, I think having a soul guide is quite convenient. Such as your sire, someone who is always there for the ride with you. My co-worker is still learning, and on her path as we speak, just like juggling jobs and family along with this new found crazy change, if you can imagine, is difficult. But in the off time I got her started on Michelle Belanger’s books, that’s how confident I am in the author.

Is your experience with your co-worker the first time you helped someone with their awakening? Did you expect it to happen in the workplace or was it a shock to meet someone with potential there?

My experience with my coworker is not my first experience but probably the most different seeing as this particular person had no previous knowledge of the lifestyle or the community at all, so it was starting from the complete beginning.

Back to Michelle Belanger’s books, which of them did you get her started on? Has she been taking in the information well?

I wasn’t looking for it to happen in the workplace but it’s entirety not impossible, especially at the type of place it is. Everyone there is some type of “alternative” from the norm, so it’s not surprising to find like-minded or like path individuals. She has been reading “Vampires In Their Own Words” as well as “The Vampire Codex”, and seems to be gaining knowledge from it. I have offered her other mentors, introduced her to other elders in the community that each may teach something new and different based on their own personal experiences. I think it’s important as a newly awakened vampire that you don’t get stuck on one belief or another, that you gain information on ways of many so that you can choose what is right for you.

Who in the community are you introducing her to, to assist her in choosing her own path?

I have introduced her to of course everyone in the court, people of the Austin court and the Dallas court, Alabama court and members of Sahjaza including Goddess Rosemary. She has been doing well in her mentoring.

Are there other communities besides your workplace where you have met potential vampires?

I’ve met other vampires all across the globe. Whether this was online encounters, or at the many events I attend. I always seem to be running across our tribe wherever I go and it’s wonderful to know I’m never alone.

Is The Vampire Court reaching out to other vampire communities in the U.S. to collaborate on any projects?

We work with many other courts; mainly the court in Augusta, Georgia ran by my sire, and the court in Alabama. Both are of close proximity and easily accessible to join together to make a bigger impact on charity functions.

What events if any are you currently planning with the courts in Augusta and Alabama? If any are in their planning stages, how soon do you expect to announce them on social media?

As of right now there are no pending large events in the near future, though we have been discussing them. Such events take much time in planning the perfect locations and such, but we do have some things up our sleeves. That we are keeping hush hush for now. We are currently more concerned with the Sahjaza Family Reunion in July as well as our charity work and outreach in our communities, the spring is a big time for that.

Have you considered writing a book of your own about your experiences as a vampire or your experiences in House Sahjaza?

I have thought about writing many books over the years; it’s just a matter of getting the courage to do so. I may have a good part of my life out there in the public eye, but on the inside I am a private person and the idea of even doing an interview sparks my anxiety. But maybe one day when I think I’ve gained enough wisdom and experience that people may want to read, I will do so.

Do you think readers would respond well to a series of books published by you? Would you self-publish it for a select few or look for a publishing company to reach a wider audience?

I cannot day for possible readers if I did write a book on whether or not they would be interested. I am a humble person, I do not set myself on a pedestal thinking all the world must perceive me in such a manner because I am queen of this and that in the community. I think that if I was to make a book it would be for my enjoyment and satisfaction first, and if it becomes a hit then even blessings to come from it. Self-publishing would be the easiest and probably less costly, but I’m one of those people that if I’m going to do something it’s go big or go home. So I believe a company would be the first thing I sought out

Tell the readers about your interest in witchcraft and/or the occult, and your spiritual paths. What inspired you to join Temple House Sahjaza and what are you learning through them?

My interest in the occult started in high school. I started reading a book I got from Goodwill about a girl who found out her mother was Wiccan. I ended up looking more into it and found out one of my best friend's families were Wiccan. Since than her mother who I also now call Mom has taught me a little of everything from tea leaf reading, to rituals to do with my son, and not just Wiccan but many different pagan religions. I joined Sahjaza to gain even more knowledge.

How did you and Goddess Rosemary meet? Have you been involved in any activities related to Temple House Sahjaza?

I met Goddess Rosemary a year and a half ago through King Maven when I first started my court. Rosemary has helped me to grow my court and help my community more. I joined Sahjaza in October and worked with them on the Semicolon Project to help spread suicide awareness. I also have been taking classes at Sahjaza's Academy Of Grey Mystics.

How much did Goddess Rosemary help build your court, the Vampire Court of Northern Wisconsin? What made you want to join Sahjaza?

When I started the Court I did not realize how big the VC really was and I was not sure who to ask questions to. Then I heard Rosemary teach a class and I knew she was who I was looking for. She has been a great support to our court and has helped us to grow not only with advice but also by introducing me to others in the VC, and putting her faith in us to Host the Family Reunion this year. She helped to strengthen my court by introducing me to Batty Goth and giving us our link to Michigan and helping the family their and also by trusting me to watch over a second court in Wisconsin to help make the distance between members smaller and the courts more intimate. Members of each court can go to either courts meeting and we will host event together. The Black Moon Court is its name and my Regnant Dameyian Sahjaza will run it.

I thought about joining Sahjaza for about six months before I did it. I had a pull to them right away but I was worried it was too good to be true but in the end the family environment, the chance to not only learn but also to teach what I do know are what sealed the deal for me and I could not be any happier in my decision. Even writing that sentence a feeling of love and relaxation sweeps over me and from someone who suffers from PTSD and Anxiety that is something that does not happen to often

What was the book you acquired from Goodwill about this girl discovering her mother was a Wiccan? In what ways did this discovery affect her, and how did her story speak to you?

The book was called “Book of Shadows”. It is the first book in the Sweeps series by Cate Tiernan. In the book the discovery changed her whole life because she found out after she started having weird magical things happen to her and around her. It was something she had no choice to learn about, and she is very powerful, so many people wanted to take advantage of it. It is a fiction book so it has a lot of fantasy magic in it but it also had some truths about Wicca in it, like how it was once seen as good. Healers would use it to save people and help people. Then it turned into a bad thing so they had to work in the shadows. The story more than spoke to me. I grew up in a Christian community and my grandparents are strong Catholics so no one speaks of stuff like witchcraft without saying how bad it is. When I read how it works with the earth and it can be good and help people I was drawn to it. I got so sucked in I got the rest of the book from the library and finished the series in a week. It opened up my world to new and loving emotions and a belonging that I did not know before.

How did your community and your grandparents feel about your discovering Wicca through Tieman’s “Book of Shadows”?

My Grandparents always supported me threw anything I did even if they did not agree. They never treated me different. We kind of don't talk about it to respect each other. My community was not as supportive. I was the face to pick on in school but after school I kept to myself and the people that I trust to know who and what I am have all accepted me. They ask questions but don't judge, but I am very picky who I share the real me with.

You and Goddess Rosemary of Temple House Sahjaza are collaborating on planning events. Which event was your first?

The first event Goddess Rosemary and I did together was an online campaign called Sweetbloodvamp to support type 1 diabetes awareness. The name came from a book I read as a teen called Sweetblood by Pete Hautman. It's about a girl with type 1 diabetes who had a theory that all the original vampire stories were from what happened to diabetics before the world knew what diabetes was. Diabetes hits home for me because my husband and son both have type 1 diabetes and Goddess Rosemary has a family member with diabetes. Last November we spread information about type 1 diabetes on Facebook and Instagram, and shared our stories about how diabetes affected our lives. We had wonderful helpers in my court Enchanted Haven, Batty Goth Sahjaza and her great art skills and all of Sahjaza. Pete Hautman sent us some signed books and bookmarks that have been given to children I know with type 1 diabetes. A few were kept to add to the raffles for our next event.

How much artwork did Batty Goth Sahjaza contribute to your efforts to spread awareness about diabetes?

Batty Goth was a huge part in the Sweetbloodvamp campaign. She did all our banners and helped to spread everyone's stories. Batty is my right hand in everything the Court does and is my biggest support. I owe a lot between our campaigns and how far the court has come to her and her hard work.

How actively has Batty supported the VC and what else has she done to boost your activities?

Batty has had her hands in the VC for a long time. Her experience and knowledge has led to her being a great help with both my court and she has lent advice to others also. She helped to find members in Michigan, done all out art work, helped to make out court symbol and also make it into a 3D blue print ( with help by another great member Agdistis Noctem Aeternus). She also runs the Michigan United page and helps run all our social media pages. She helps plan all events we do and has great ideas. She does all this well taking care of the In-laws, working and going to school. I have no clue what I would do without her.

How many copies of Sweetblood did you receive from Pete Hautman for distribution? Are you still keeping in touch with him since he passed them along to you?

We got a copy of Sweetblood and a copy of another book. When I contacted him I was planning a party of Type 1 diabetic kids and the books were going to be gifts to some of the older kids. Due to weather and a few other problems the event was unable to happen. So I plan to use the items we got now as a way to educate more people by giving them as door prizes at our event. This way we can show people who don't know and understand about diabetes can learn through the eyes of a little girl and how kids struggle everyday with it. I have not written to Pete in a bit but I plan to share every good achievement we have with the campaign with him. So he knows the impact his great book has had on the world even if it is small.

Did you read Sweetblood in printed form, or was it published online as a download? How much of an impact has it made since its publication? Would you recommend it to people who are interested in learning more about diabetes?

I read Sweetblood in printed form. I still have the book to this day. I am not sure of the impact it made on others but it made a huge impact on me. My Grandpa also had diabetes and it helped me to understand what was going on with him more. Also when I met my husband in high school I also helped me to be calm and collected when it came to his health. I would recommend Sweetblood to any child with type 1 diabetes. She goes through many emotional changes that all kids with diabetes go through. It can help them to feel more normal and not think of themselves as different and strange. The author emptied his own feeling about his childhood with diabetes into the pages and you can feel that. It gives people who know nothing about the book a glimpse, but there is a lot more it does not show. We share awareness and stories to get everything in the open.

Where on the net can people purchase Sweetblood? How much of a response has it received so far? Did you raise as much awareness about diabetes as you hoped you would?

You can order Sweetblood and other books by Pete Hautman on Amazon. Sweetbloodvamp received a small response in the first year but we had a good number of Type 1 diabetics share their stories and thank us for our work to spread awareness. I did not know what to expect for our first online campaign but just knowing we helped a few people to share their stories it was a good turnout in my heart and mind.

Who started the Semicolon Project for suicide awareness, and what has the extent of your work been with them since the beginning? How have you gone about spreading word about this project and who have you reached so far?

The Semicolon Project was started by the Austin Vampire Court and the Court Of Live Oak. The history of Semicolon For Suicide started before that, but they turned it into a community project over the past few years. Most the efforts belong to those courts and the Sahjaza family. I and my court have been involved by sharing our stories of our pain of our past and the stories of others. The Project of the past two years has grown little by little and more of the Vampire Court has been involved but it is my hope that we can spread the word outside the Vampire Court and help others to learn to love themselves and get help to push past the pain and live the life they are meant to live and live happy.

What classes have you taken up with Sahjaza's Academy Of Grey Mystics? How helpful have those classes been helping shape your path to greater knowledge?

I have taken classes on Herbology, protection and shadow work, and there are many more classes I hope to take. The classes have helped a lot. I have epilepsy and it affects my memory, so the classes help to reestablish what I already know and helps me to gain new knowledge. It not only shapes my path but helps to reinforce it. I gain knowledge to not only better myself and my beliefs (kind of like others going to church) but to help others most of all my court. The more I know the better I can protect and teach those under me so that they can grow into the strong spiritual individuals they hope to be.

What classes on herbology, protection and shadow work does the Academy Of Grey Mystics offer? How much have you leaned with those classes and what are the other classes you are considering?

With herbology the first class is on the basics so that people know the risks of using herbs and also shows what good things they can do. Protection you learn how to shield yourself, also how to ground and center yourself so you can keep your shields up. I just started shadow work but so far I have learned how to listen to my dreams and inner thoughts ext. to open myself up to the things I hide deep down to better know myself. Protection I took as a refresher but I learned new tips. Herbology I learned a lot about different herbs that I did not know like some plants the flowers can be poisonous but the roots can be heeling. I hope to learn a lot more in Herbology 2. I am looking to finish all the classes the Academy offers but next I think I might do Astral Projection, and charms, talismans, and amulets.

What is the latest event you are planning with Goddess Rosemary? When and where will this event be taking place?

The newest event we are still working on is happening in July. It is a Gothic Renfair being held in Tomahawk, Wisconsin at a castle on an island. We have been planning since November and work every day to make it more amazing. We will have vendors, guest speakers, and archery demonstration, a dark moon ritual, and even dinner at the castle. Many hours have gone into the event and we have had wonderful items donated for our raffle. We will also have a table set up for all the Sahjaza authors to showcase their work. We are always looking for new vendors and everyone is welcome to join.

Is this year’s Gothic Renfair your first, or is it a yearly event? If the event succeeds, will you host another one?

This is our first year for Gothic Renfair, but we hope to keep it going every year and bring more people and vendors from all around the USA.

How did you go about seeking guests to appear at the fair? How much of a response was your advertising met with?

We have banners and photos we are sharing threw social media. I also have gone to local new age shops and handed out flyers along with other members of my court and a few of our guests have come to us through word of mouth. We are getting a good amount of chatter of people wanting to join us either as a guest of vendor but I think next year we will choose another weekend because I found out we booked for the same weekend as a lager festival in the area. I hope that we can still have a good amount of people come and grow every year.

Name the guests who will be appearing at this year’s Gothic Renfair, how far they will travel to be there, and what their talents are.

We have a lot of great guests this year. Goddess Rosemary will be their of course all away from Minnesota Reverend HEOP Lieth is coming from Alabama will be doing a Dark Moon Ritual for us and also the dinner blessing Friday night. King Valic Lore Sahjaza and Queen Krista Pope also from Alabama will be renewing their vows. Grand Duchess Jane and Grand Duke Timothy Gothington Sahjaza and high Elder Ordained Priestess Victoria Elder Stephany will be coming from Ohio and also hosting our Sunday brunch. These are just a few of our guests. We will also have books by Sahjaza authors on display and a few of the Authors will be there to chat with people like Goddess Rosemary and her newest book the Sahjaza Book of Shadows.

Do you know the name of the castle where the Gothic Renfair festival is taking place this July? What historical significance is associated with it? Did its significance have any bearing on you choosing it as an event location?

The name is Kelley's Castle. It was built by a great guy named Peter Kelley. He is still building it but he opens it to the public every year during the Tomahawk Fall Ride, a big bike rally that happens in Tomahawk every year. He has knights, kings, dancers, etc. It is a lot of fun the whole family. I choose the location because of it being hidden in the forest. Also because I knew my family loved the place so much that others would too. We are the first group to be allowed to rent the island but Peter hopes to make it a venue for weddings and other events once it is finished.

How long has it taken Kelley to build Kelley’s Castle? Is he drawing from any cultures to furnish the place? How soon does he expect it to be completed?

Peter Kelley started to clear the land and add septic in 1987 and started to build the castle five years later. I believe his inspiration is more Celtic but I am not sure. You will find that the ride benefits the MDA; the first ride was of only a few riders who just wanted to brave the cold north woods to see the fall colors. It grew in popularity over the years on its own, but grew even bigger when Harley Davidson and their two plants in town got involved. It went from a Motorcycle ride to a four-day party event but still holds the same ride that was used in the beginning. Once it hits town people line up to view what is now called the thunder parade to see all the bikes and riders. You would think a motorcycle rally is just a big party and only for adults, but it can also be a family event to walk the main street of the town, look at all the motorcycles, and get good food and merchandise. We go with our son every year. Once the sun goes down you can go to Bubba's big party or stay downtown and listen to bands on both ends of Main Street.

Where does the Tomahawk motorcycle ride go, and how many stops does it make on its route?

The fall ride is an eighteen mile ride that starts in Tomahawk. Then it goes down Kings Road through the township of King, to the Harrison area, and back to main Street Tomahawk for the thunder Parade. There are no stops but it is a great scenic drive.

Are there other events you all are planning for the rest of 2019 and beyond? If so, do you want to briefly mention any of them?

As of now we are just looking to make the two campaigns and the Gothic renfair early events. Putting all we have into them till we get our messages out and make the renfair the best place to get back to nature.

What do you most want Temple House Sahajza and the other groups you are involved in to be remembered for?

I want Temple House Sahjaza and my court and all the others I work with to be known for their willingness to teach what most won't and our ability to make a difference in the world with our teachings and our charity works. The best thing to give the world is everything you don't have to make sure someone else can make the world at peace.
