What does Zebulon Kosted and Valkynaz have in common? Space! Outer space and the universe we are surrounded in!
Both being black metal acts each one hits boundaries like they haven’t before on this split cd. ZK has terrific yet terrifying vocals on the track entitled Space with a droning drum beats to follow. Portal LQ-670 offers more noise synth and a spinning contraption of sorts with reverb and chorus behind it with a big loud noise that sounds like alien contact to me. The feedback and monitors sound like they are having a fit. Bubbling and fulfilling in its cosmic flavor.
Emraud (Loits cover) starts off noisy then jumps in rifftasticly and a serious BM attitude about it. For the love of all that is unholy this song just rocks that hard. Black n roll with a fiery edge about it with steady pace and well timed drumming. Then it slowly jumps into something absolutely evil and grim. Traveling through the atmosphere ZK creates I may have found my new favorite song by Rashid.
The next 5 tracks are none other than the notorious one man black metal outfit utterly known only as Valkynaz! With Blighted Constructs you find epic and beautiful darkness spilling all over. Buzz saw vocals and ambient passages along with the guitar twisted and melodic. Inner Spheres Deceasing provides more depth and wailing BM guitars in your face. With all this going on the bass is steady and the drums slam itself into another existence of synth filled dungeon like noise.
Erblicket is the perfect complimentary track to ZKs portal LQ-670 and is deeply driven and atmospheric. All the while taking the listener to a far off place, I would have to say Andromeda as one. Very soothing and meditation wise.
The Numidian sounds like a black metal Godflesh song imo. And the Absurd cover Pesttanz adds a nice touch to the end to the split CD. Definitely not for wimps! Check it out! –Daniel Ryan
