EP Review: GRAVE PLAGUE The Infected Crypts

GRAVE PLAGUE
The Infected Crypts
Give Praise Records
Ohio’s Grave Plague are unashamedly death metal in the Swedish style of early Entombed and Dismember. From their opening track “Arise the Infected” and their second song “Halls of the Rotten,” the early 90’s Swedish death metal sound is emulated on this 2-track release. Not a bad offering by any means but the band is let down by a muddied production. The listener will have trouble distinguishing the guitar and bass although vocals and drums come through without issue. There does appear to be a solo on the second song but due to the heavy distortion, the part is sometimes indiscernible aside from a few atonal licks. Nods to early Immolation are also made in slower, chugging riffs throughout the release countered by sections of blast. Grave Plague are releasing "The Infected Crypts" EP on puke green 7" vinyl with art by Marcio at Blasphemator Art on 17th March via Redefining Darkness & Give Praise Records. Recommended for those who wish to hear those emulating the sounds of early 90’s death metal with a modern outlook. -Simon Brown
