Poem: 'Failing Disciples' by Jerry Langdon

Failing Disciples
© Jerry Langdon 2019

Death has such a familiar face.
I've see it time and time again.
He reminds me of my disgrace.
His visage wields endless pain.
Singled out from the mass
The end still finds its curtain call.
One by one we must pass.
Always just a step from the fall.
We cling to this wicked place
Digging in like a stubborn stain,
Wasting away, taking up space.
Thinking we are here to reign.
We are just sorry vessels
Drifting down the Styx to death.
Falling like a handful of pebbles.
Disoriented disciples of the almighty breath.
