CD Review: V/A The Enchanter's Ball by Danny Ryan

VARIOUS ARTISTS
The Enchanter's Ball
Doomed & Stoned
This compilation here is nothing short of a trip, featuring 30 bands off of the Doomed & Stoned Bandcamp page. In first glance I thought this would be a compilation featuring more Cathedral style like doom metal given the album cover. After hearing it is also came off as a doomy version of Coven and holds true to the sounds of Black Sabbath, Electric Wizard and Candlemass. These songs consist of a well-produced sound but with an old school 70s analog recorded vibe throughout. The compilation Enchanters Ball has something to offer for new and old listeners of heavy metal and psychedelic rock. If you like to give this whirlwind of bassy dissonance a listen, be warned, the singers of all the bands are fronted by female singers, but that does not always have to be a bad thing. It actually makes it sound much more diverse and much more interesting. I just was expecting some male fronted vocalists as well. That is my only really gripe about it but overall it is a very good compilation album that stands true to what it offers. Last words, Doomed & Stoned covers a wide area of bands of this genre from the USA, Canada, Mexico and more. If you are looking to broaden your taste in Doom Metal from around the world, this place is worth a look and listen. Very "Easy Rider" era. -Danny Ryan
