Yesterday, I was listening to a myriad of grindcore and goregrind releases, and today, the splatter fest continues! While scrolling through Youtube, I happened to come upon ''Demo 2019'' by Cystic Embalment. I mentioned in my last review how the band Uremic Fetor reminded me of Braindead Webzine. Cystic Embalment follows suit, and once again, I am taken back to the early 2000's when I would frequent this zine. It is such a great resource for grindcore, goregrind, brutal death and other forms of underground brutality... you know the drill! This demo has a rough(ish) production quality, but it is clean in the sense that everything is tight and put together very well. Vocally, these guys are all over the place. With vocalizations ranging from ''in the gutter'' gurgles to a cleaner style that can be heard on releases from the likes of Autophagia, fans of gore and grind would without a doubt never be bored. The drums are on time, the guitar is heavy and chugging (and at times has squeals like you would hear from a band like Obituary), and the bass is so low that it sometimes sounds like a thunder roll. Featuring nine rancid tracks, this demo is under twelve minutes in length, but still manages to violate your ears in a way that is quite pleasurable. Goregrind is an art form, and only a select few can make it sound right. Cystic Embalment seem as if they went to grind-school, doing their homework in a routine and timely fashion. This demo is great, and as I mention in most of my positive reviews, I hope to hear more from these guys. Positively exquisite! -Devin Joseph Meaney
