Two Swallows
by Sarah McKellar
Two swallows fly,
away from the earth,
they question their judgement,
they question their worth.
Higher and higher,
the death toll still soars,
like eagles in flight,
they chase the wind more.
We watch in desperation,
as they fly towards the sun,
their time on earth,
it will soon be done.
As much as we wish our swallows will return,
their memory lives on,
and our hearts they shall burn,
because forever they shall ride the vespers,
and trees,
forever with them,
our heart will be.
