Poem: 'Counting Plague Like Symptoms' by James Kenneth Blaylock

Counting Plague Like Symptoms
By James Kenneth Blaylock, 9-28-18

the upheaval shook the foundation of everything, nothing reflected the same

even the birds chirped in defiance
but not a single neat nest remained

instead, what lingered, was a thick
cloud of choked out remanence...

so, what were our fastest reassurances,
besides counting plague like symptoms

we would have to see things through new eyes - the meaningless musings - our dingy goggles

witnessed a bleakness that was unshakable,
it wholly permeated with the scent of sulfur

hell was closer than we'd originally thought,
in fact, it omitted anything ever germinating
