EP Review: NO FUNERAL Mankind is Carrion, Fit for Nothing

Mankind is Carrion, Fit for Nothing
Release Date: December 30, 2017
No Funeral is a four piece Misanthropic, Doom/Sludge project hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Formed in 2011, “Mankind is Carrion, Fit for Nothing” is the 2017 EP release from No Funeral. From the commencement of “Carrion” – a verbal manifesto commands the listener’s attention before switching to a doom influenced, sludge-groove tone. A very slight drone aspect features throughout “Carrion” adding to a nihilistic feel. The screams and guttural growls are consistently yet uncompromisingly brutal and offset each other continuously throughout “Mankind is Carrion, Fit for Nothing.” A nearly seamless continuance to “Hyperalgesia” demonstrate another musical aspect of No Funeral’s consistently tight and polished sound. “Hyperalgesia” displays a more doom influenced, nihilistic aspect to this release to be appreciated. Notably stronger drone aspects and use of samples add a slightly more misanthropic and unsettling touch to the concluding track of this release. Uncompromisingly confronting and brutal, “Mankind is Carrion, Fit for Nothing” is a complete nihilistic, doom-sludge aural assault. -Sarah McKellar
